A Thoughtfully Designed Primary Suite
This complete primary suite renovation transformed an underutilized layout into a highly functional, beautifully detailed retreat. By rethinking the floor plan, flipping the bathroom and closet locations, and adding custom storage throughout, we were able to maximize organization without sacrificing bedroom space. Thoughtful architectural details, custom cabinetry, heated floors, and timeless finishes elevate this suite while ensuring it works effortlessly for everyday living.
The redesigned primary bathroom centers around a freestanding tub that brings a spa-like feel to the space while maintaining clean, classic lines. A custom wood vanity provides ample storage and warmth, balancing the light tile and white surfaces throughout the room. Brass fixtures and hardware add a subtle layer of sophistication, tying together the traditional detailing with a fresh, updated look.

Positioning the tub beneath the window allowed natural light to become a key design element while maintaining privacy with custom shutters. The clean silhouette of the tub helps the space feel open and uncluttered, while the floor-mounted tub filler provides both function and visual balance. This area was designed to feel serene and purposeful, creating a relaxing place to unwind at the end of the day.

The enlarged custom shower was designed with both function and comfort in mind. A knee wall adds privacy while also creating a convenient place to hang towels just outside the shower. Inside, a thoughtfully placed shaving ledge provides an essential everyday detail, and the shower door handle doubles as a towel bar for added efficiency. The shower includes both a standard shower head and a handheld option, offering flexibility for daily use. A herringbone tile floor carries seamlessly from the bathroom into the shower, creating continuity and subtle visual movement while the soft, neutral wall tile keeps the space timeless.

By reworking the layout, we were able to add a dedicated water closet with a pocket door for privacy. Within this space, a tall custom cabinet provides discreet storage for towels and toilet paper, something the original layout lacked. This solution keeps everyday essentials close at hand while maintaining a clean, uncluttered appearance throughout the bathroom.

Flipping the bathroom and closet locations allowed the primary bath to sit closer to the bedroom while positioning the walk-in closet at the end of the suite. This improved the overall flow and created a more intuitive daily routine. The materials and finishes were carefully coordinated so the spaces feel connected while still serving distinct purposes.

An awkward and underused area of the bedroom was transformed into a full wall of custom cabinetry designed as a dedicated “his” closet. The bedroom door swing limited usability, but this new built-in solution maximizes storage without reducing the overall bedroom footprint. Paneled doors with brass accents allow the cabinetry to blend seamlessly into the room’s architecture.

Before the renovation, this area housed a shallow linen closet in the hallway. By repurposing that space for the new water closet, we were able to design a shallow cabinet at the top of the stairs that feels more like a piece of furniture than storage. It now serves as a visual focal point from both the upstairs hallway and the first-floor staircase.

This primary suite renovation balances beauty and functionality through thoughtful planning and custom solutions. From improved circulation and enhanced storage to elevated finishes and architectural detailing, every decision was made to support how the homeowners live day-to-day. The result is a cohesive, timeless retreat that feels both refined and highly livable, proof that smart design can transform even the most challenging layouts.
