December Project Spotlight: Adams Street Home Renovation

Creating Comfort, Function & Cohesion for a Busy Young Family

This month, we’re excited to share a behind-the-scenes look at our Adams Project, a full first-floor and partial second floor renovation designed for a young family wanting more function, better flow, and spaces that truly support their daily life.

When we first walked the home, it was clear they had wonderful square footage but the layout wasn’t working hard enough for them. The family didn’t have a proper mudroom, the laundry room was on the first floor but barely functional due to tight spacing, and the kitchen felt worn and underutilized. Together, we set out to reimagine these spaces with warmth, practicality, and thoughtful details that feel uniquely “them.”

A Larger, Brighter, More Functional Kitchen

The kitchen transformation is one of the biggest highlights of this renovation. We enlarged the existing footprint and made space for seating at the peninsula, something the family had always wanted for casual meals and easy weeknight routines.

A bright, expanded kitchen with a recentered window and layered materials for a timeless, inviting gathering space.

To create proper alignment and symmetry, we moved and recentered the kitchen eating area window to keep the space symentrical. Layered textures including subway tile with character, warm white cabinetry, brass hardware, and a classic wood hood, give the kitchen a timeless yet fresh feel.

Timeless finishes and warm brass accents elevate this bright, functional kitchen.

A seamless wall of tall cabinetry now includes a panel-ready refrigerator, allowing the appliance wall to read clean and cohesive. The redesign also allowed us to incorporate a fully functional appliance garage, keeping everyday items accessible but tucked away.

A Family Room Designed for Real Life

The family room was redesigned to feel comfortable, functional, and ready for real life. We added electrical above the fireplace to properly mount the television, creating a clean look without visible cords or equipment. A new wood mantel brings warmth and organic texture to the space, anchoring the room and enhancing the architectural features. Together, these updates make the family room feel intentional and inviting, perfect for both everyday lounging and effortless entertaining.

The Mudroom: A Functional, Family-Friendly Transformation

One of the biggest quality-of-life improvements in this renovation was creating a mudroom that truly serves this young family. Their previous home layout lacked a proper drop zone; coats, backpacks, and shoes often landed wherever there was space. By rethinking the footprint and designing intentional storage, we created a mudroom that is beautiful, durable, and tailored to how this family actually lives.

Open cubbies, a warm wood bench, and polished brass hooks complete the mudroom, giving the family a welcoming landing zone as they come and go. The combination of open and closed storage keeps everyday clutter in check while making the space feel intentional and inviting.

To bring personality into the room, we selected a custom blue cabinet color that strikes the perfect balance between bold and classic. Two tall built-in cabinets maximize function, one designed specifically for shoe storage for every family member, and the other dedicated to cleaning products and household essentials that need a permanent home.

Custom-painted tall cabinetry provides organized shoe storage and a dedicated spot for cleaning essentials.

We started by establishing a durable foundation with a herringbone tile floor, a stylish yet hardworking choice that can withstand daily wear, wet boots, and constant foot traffic. The soft gray tones bring texture and interest while maintaining a clean, timeless look.

Laundry That Lives Where Life Happens

Warm wood shelving, simple styling, and natural light make this laundry space feel organized and inviting. The combination of open shelving and practical counter space creates the perfect setup for folding, sorting, and everyday routines. Soft textures and thoughtful details keep the area feeling clean and calm, even on the busiest days.

Warm wood shelves and thoughtful storage make this second-floor laundry both practical and inviting.

This custom built-in makes use of an otherwise unused corner on the second floor, transforming it into functional storage that fits seamlessly beneath the roofline. With deep drawers and a clean, streamlined design, it adds practicality without overwhelming the space—proof that thoughtful cabinetry can make every square foot work harder.

Refreshed Powder Room & Bar Area

The powder room received a fresh yet elevated makeover a new vanity, lighting, finishes, and hardware resulting in a cleaner, more modern look.

Just off the kitchen, the bar area was updated with new cabinetry in a custom color and reconfigured to include a built-in undercounter refrigerator, making this a stylish and functional entertaining hub.

A Welcoming New Front Entry

We replaced and centered the built-in cabinetry in the front entry and added custom wall trim to elevate the space. The result is a foyer that feels classic, inviting, and proportionally correct setting the tone the moment you walk inside.

Custom built-ins and fresh millwork transform the foyer into an architectural moment with purpose and personality.

Designed Just for Them

What makes this project so special is how tailored it is to this family’s lifestyle. From the mudroom cubbies, space for backpacks and sports gear, to the enlarged kitchen for a functional peninsula, to the seamless appliance integration. Every detail was chosen with intention.

This home now offers the perfect blend of beauty and functionality, proving that the right layout, and thoughtful design, can completely reshape the way a family lives in their home.
